Review: Koechlin's 7 Stars Shine on Capriccio
Koechlin: The Seven Stars' Symphony; Ver la voûte étoilée
Sinfonieorchester Basel, Ariane Matiakh (cond.) Capriccio
Koechlin was a bit of a loon, and his music has a freewheeling zaniness coupled to a virtuoso technique and a seriousness of utterance that's unlike any other. His Seven Stars' Symphony reflects his love, not of astronomy, but of the cinema, with each movement embodying his reaction to a famous film celebrity. Trust me, there's nothing like it.
