Chevrolet - The First Crash Tests

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the rates of roadway fatalities and injuries hit the lowest recorded levels since 1949.

A huge part of that is thanks to the evolution of crash testing. The first crash tests were conducted in the 1930's. The 50's saw the introduction of the crash test dummy. Today the dummies are wired up with dozens of sensors, and "real" tests are augmented by hundreds of computerized versions, providing intricate data to car makers so they can make the safest possible vehicles for consumers.
