Traditional Finnish Collared Axes

In Traditional Finnish Collared Axes I will briefly cover the history, evolution and use of Finnish axes. People couldn't afford multiple axes and neither could they carry the added weight around. Unlike other countries specialized axes these were meant more as a general purpose tools. They were the Swiss army knife of axes.

Finnish axes were built like tanks and tended to wear out from use rather than abuse. Thats why most of the ones you find now have a short bit but are still in amazing shape for their age. They are truly one the most iconic axes types of the 20th century.

Billnas & Kellokoski were eventually bought out by Fiskars in the 1960s. The collar style was tunred into almost an American/ Finnish hybrid and eventually phased out.
