Reflecting and Journaling After an Improv Show | Meditative Journaling Circle with David Prorok
Use this video after an improv performance to reflect on your experiences and grow!
Improv isn't only about performance, it's about personal growth, understanding, and collaboration. It's about stepping into the unknown and navigating it with spontaneity and courage. After such an exhilarating experience, it's beneficial to pause, process, and draw insights that can inform our future performances.
In this video, we start with a 10 minute guided anapana meditation, followed by 20 minutes of journaling, and 10 minutes of sharing. Use this time to connect with yourself, gather insights, and share them with your teammates!
Prompts:
Personal Growth: Reflect on your performance – your actions, reactions, and the feelings that accompanied them. Explore the strengths you demonstrated and areas where you aspire to grow.
Team Dynamics: Consider our team's synergy, the interchange of ideas, and how we supported each other. Identify what enhanced our teamwork and areas we can refine to bolster our collective performance.
Audience Connection: Recall the interaction with our audience. Which moments resonated? How did their responses influence our performance?
---
1. Reflect on the performance: What were the top three moments of the performance for you? Why did these stand out?
2. Your journey: How have you grown since the first day of rehearsal? What discoveries about yourself did you make during the process?
3. The connections: How did your relationships with your team evolve throughout this journey? How did this influence your performance?
4. Unplanned moments: Were there any moments that didn't go as planned during the performance? How did you navigate these surprises? What did they teach you about adaptability and resilience?
5. Feedback: How did you feel about the audience’s reaction? What did their laughter, applause, or quiet attention tell you about your performance?
6. The joy of improv: What was the most joyful part of this performance? Why?
7. Learning and growth: What were your challenges and how did you overcome them? What skills did you strengthen? What new skills would you like to develop for future performances?
8. Gratitude: What are you most grateful for about this experience?
9. Next steps: As you look ahead, what would you like to bring from this performance to your next improv adventure? What dreams do you have for future performances?
This guided reflection and journaling video is specially designed for improv artists to process their experiences post-performance. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, this reflection space will help you unpack the emotions, surprises, joys, and learnings from your performance. With prompts focused on growth, connection, adaptability, audience reactions, and gratitude, you'll gain deeper insights into your own improv journey.
