The Battle Of Dunkirk. The War Latest (1940)
Full title reads: "Pathe Gazette Special - The War - Latest".
Near Dunkirk, France.
MS of the British troops of the BEF (British Expeditionary Force) marching through small French town en route to Dunkirk and evacuation to England. They are marching in formation but are obviously tired and look bedraggled.
VS. of small boats coming alongside British destroyer and of the men rescued from the beaches of Dunkirk climbing aboard the warship from the rowing boats. VS. of British destroyers firing broadsides towards the shore to cover the Dunkirk evacuation. Vs. of dozens of rescued soldiers from Dunkirk transferring from one warship to another as the ships steam alongside in the channel off Dunkirk.
Ground to air of flak bursting around German bomber flying over. VS. of Royal Air Force pilots taking off from England bound for Dunkirk in their Hurricanes and Spitfires. MS. and CU. of RAF fighter pilot climbing from his Hurricane, he gives V sign as he jumps down.
LS. from sea of the fires sending smoke clouds into the sky over Dunkirk. French soldier on left of frame as he looks over rail towards the fires. GV of ships returning to England passing a convoy going in the opposite direction towards Dunkirk.
VS Good shots of British and French soldiers coming ashore from the packed rescue ships that have brought them back from Dunkirk. Good shots of the crowded decks of the rescue ships and good CUs of the soldiers stepping ashore, also shots of wounded and nurses coming ashore. CU Lord Gort. VS. Excellent shots of men rescued from Dunkirk being given food and tea on the platforms and of the harbour station and of them packing the trains that will take them inland. They drink mugs of tea and eat cakes and sandwiches that are given to them. 'Land of Hope and Glory' plays in the back ground.
