AV 8B Harrier Demo 2018 Cherry Point Air Show

The AV-8B Harrier "jump jet" performs at the 2018 MCAS Cherry Point Air Show. Shot on Saturday, May 5.

The AV-8B Harrier was developed by McDonnell Douglas after the AV-8A which served with the Royal Air Force during the 1970's. The Harrier currently flies for the US Marine Corps at MCAS Cherry Point and MCAS Yuma.

It is very noisy while hovering, but relatively quiet during conventional flight. Smoke in the exhaust is normal, as the engines are water cooled. Water injected into the exhaust washes out carbon residue which causes the smoke.

I was surprised by how low the harrier gets with its gear up during part 2 of the demo. Watch at 7:10. He's below the treeline!

Due to camera issues, this is one of the only performances I filmed in its entirety. I did not film the F-35B Demo. I will include one pass from the F-35 in my overall Cherry Point air show video.
