Home Minister Amit Shah's promise to implement CAA and the work are both going on at a fast pace! Because now Bangladesh has started giving citizenship to the persecuted Hindus and non-Muslims of Pakistan. 14 people have got citizenship for the first time under CAA in the country. The government had issued a notification on CAA on March 11, 2024 and after that, citizenship certificates were distributed for the first time. The Union Home Secretary handed over citizenship certificates to some applicants in New Delhi today. This law was passed by the Parliament in 2019. Under the CAA 2019 amendment, migrants who entered India till December 31, 2014 and faced 'religious persecution or fear of religious persecution' in their country of origin were made eligible for citizenship by the new law. Such migrants will be provided Indian citizenship on fast track basis in six years. This amendment reduced the residence requirement for citizenship of these immigrants from 11 years to five years.
