Lough Derg invites you to join us on a guided 8k or 12k walk for Pilgrim Path Day, Monday 18th April
Lough Derg would like to invite you to join us on ‘Pilgrim Path Day’ to walk the recently refurbished Lough Derg Pilgrim Path along the lakeshore on Easter Monday 18th April.
This will be the first time Lough Derg will celebrate National Pilgrim Paths Week with a special day planned on the path along the lakeshore, with a guided 8k or 12k walk.
For the last two years, Station Island at Lough Derg has been closed due to restrictions. The new guided walking experience was born out of necessity and the path along the lakeshore was refurbished to accommodate visitors still keen to visit.
Situated in Pettigo, County Donegal, the Pilgrim Path at Lough Derg offers a moderate walk on gentle terrain. Walkers are advised to wear walking shoes/boots and to be prepared for the changeable weather conditions.
Lough Derg team members guiding each group will explain the history surrounding the Island in a unique way, stopping at special viewpoints along the route and explaining the stories behind them. Information boards are also on the path.
There are two distance options: 8k or 12k and Pilgrim Path Day will last approx. 4 hours, beginning and ending at the Visitor Centre at Lough Derg.
Stop at particular viewpoints including St Davog’s Seat, with a view of Station Island from a height, St Brigid’s Well and Saints Island.
Registration essential. Contact info@loughderg.org or tel. 0(035371) 9861518 to reserve your space on our Pilgrim Path Day walk.
Donations welcome.
Further dates planned for our Pilgrimage along the Pilgrim Path at Lough Derg in May and September. All booking details at www.loughderg.org. Blessings
