IOWA DRIFTLESS REGION: THIS MADE MY TRIP SO WORTH IT!! (Fly fishing Bankston Creek, Dubuque Iowa)

I don't know where in my travels I built up all this good fishy karma... But.. I must have done something right because I cashed it all in today! I was making the long drive from Kansas City all the way back to Madison Wisconsin and like usual I needed a place to stop and fish on my way through Dubuque, Iowa. I always love fishing new spots so I decided to try Richmond Springs in Backbone State Forest. It seemed like there would be more folks in lawnchairs sitting in the water than trout swimming through it! Maybe I'll save that one for the winter… So I high tailed it to one of my favorite streams in the area that I knew would have a few fish! As luck would have it, as I was getting on the water a fellow fly angler was getting off. We got to talking and it turned out he was a private landowner along the upper section of the creek and had permission from the other landowners to fish it. I have no idea why, but he so kindly offered to walk me up a few holes and let me fish the private water! I was like a fox in a hen house!! I caught fish on the dropper, the hopper, and even my dry fly! It was such an amazing experience and I could not be more thankful to my new friend. It is so nice meeting fishy folks out on the water who are willing to spread the love of the sport!
