Via Ferrata Lake district 2019

In July I was lucky enough to experience the Via Ferrata in Coniston the Lake Districts with my son and cousin.

It was a cold Summer's day and the sky was grey. The drive up to Coniston was an unforgettable experience as the scenery was breathtaking.

Via Ferrata is an award-winning tourist attraction in Cumbria. The route follows the original Miners route to the top of the Mountain. There are two types of routes; Via Ferrata Classic, which is not as challenging or demanding as the Via Ferrata Xtreme. You will follow the historic miner's path high onto Fleetwith Pike in a thrilling stunning and safe outdoor activity. It’s an adrenaline rush with the essence of natural beauty.

Upon arrival, we checked in and not long after started to put on our climbing gear along with 20 other people. Once the safety briefing was done we hiked up to the slate mine which took about 15 minutes.

Once we arrived at the start we had another safety briefing and practised clipping in an and out. The first section was a ladder straight down and then a traverse. After that there we a number of technical sections all pushing you to the limits. The second to last section was the bridge across the gorge which was great fun. Finally, we scaled a large cargo net to the top and hiked up to the summit (Fleetwith Pike) for spectacular views of the lakes. It truly was a memorable day.
