Is the DS18B20 as accurate as other temperature probes when measuring pipe temperature?
In this video, I compare the performance of three different temperature probes: A DS18B20 and two other NTC Thermistors. Whilst the DS18B20 is very popular, I have found it's just not as accurate as a simple thermistor, especially one designed for pipes. I wanted to see what the actual difference were.
I created a simple test rig for the three sensors and ran two tests. I first compared their performance with an ice bath, before comparing the sensor to a certified Heat Meter.
The DS18B20 had the lowest accuracy in both tests, whilst the two thermistors matched themselves, they were also out by a little.
