With so much photography in the past few days, a rest day was needed! However, I decided I would hike to Observation Point...so that meant this would be more of a mental rest day than a physical one. I started the hike early and slowly made my way out of Zion Canyon. This part of the hike is kind of boring with a lot of switch-backs. It's the same scenery over and over, just from a slightly higher vantage point with each pass. Eventually I reached Echo Canyon, and the hike started to get really pretty. Passing through Echo Canyon, I eventually reached the rim and started another long uphill toward Observation Point. This part of the hike was TOUGH!! I wasn't prepared for how much elevation is gained after Echo Canyon! It all becomes worth it once you start to get some views of the East Side and then eventually the main canyon itself. The last half mile is almost completely flat as you make a wide sweeping turn to Observation Point. Here again the trail changes character as it's through small evergreens and scrub brush. Finally, I reached Observation Point itself. There were about 20 people up there, but it didn't feel crowded. I grabbed some lunch, took in the views for a bit, and then made my way back down. I've got to say, even though the views were great, it was kind of anti-climactic having seen the park from the air a few days prior!
The rest of the day was supposed to be spent going to get Jennifer from the airport. However, a storm delayed her flight and she got stuck in Phoenix. The vacuum pump in my airplane was still down so I couldn't fly down to get her. Eventually we got it sorted and she arrived the next day...hence the strangely assembled vlog! We did some easy hiking and exploring the fall color for her first day in Zion.
