I Am Living Northwest: Omaretta Sharpley
“I truly believe wherever there’s some soil, something can be grown there.”
This urban farm used to be an undeveloped strip on a dead-end street. Now, Omaretta Sharpley grows peas, kale, parsley and more there for her neighbors.
Omaretta is the Farm Coordinator at the Wetmore Community Garden. She lives in the neighborhood and works with a group called Common Acres. They use green spaces to benefit people and nature.
The food is free to pick and eat. Omaretta also shares the harvest with Rainier Valley food banks.
This green space provides safe access to nature and its bounty. By growing healthy food, we can grow healthy communities."
