Honduras/Guatemala: Thousands of US-bound migrants break through police line, cross border

Thousands of Honduran migrants have managed to enter Guatemalan soil and travel the east of the country in search of the border with Mexico, and with the ultimate goal of reaching the US, on Saturday.
The migrant caravan, made up of men, women, children and the elderly, is seen marching towards a line of soldier guarding the El Florido border checkpoint to prevent their entrance into Guatemalan territory. After an attempt of dialogue with the soldiers, the migrants broke through the line and marched into the country.
The migrants were then seen moving forward on the road, en route to Mexico.
"That is what we expect from the new president of the United States, since he said that he would support the migrants, and we want to know if that is true. Since former president Donald Trump never supported migrants, he only had intentions to harm them with the construction of the wall, let's hope the new president supports us," said Julio Cesar Pena, a Honduran migrant.
"The passage of hurricane Eta took my house, leaving me without belongings, so I had no alternative but to start the trip in the caravan because I had nowhere to live," shared another migrant.
In a statement, Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei called on Honduran authorities "to contain the mass exit of its inhabitants."
Since Wednesday, a caravan of thousands of migrants has been on its way to the United States through Guatemala and Mexico. The journey began a week before US President-elect Joe Biden is set to take office, taking over from the Trump administration which had a tougher stance on illegal immigration.
