ധാരാവി

മുംബൈ നഗരത്തിലെ ഒരു ചേരിപ്രദേശമാണ് ധാരാവി. ഏഷ്യയിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ ചേരിയായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ധാരാവിയിൽ പത്തുലക്ഷത്തിലധികം ജനങ്ങൾ പാർക്കുന്നു. സെൻട്രൽ മുംബൈയിലെ മാഹിം നദീതീരത്ത് ഏകദേശം 1.75 ച.കി.മീ. വിസ്തൃതിയിൽ ഈ ചേരി വ്യാപിച്ചുകിടക്കുന്നു. ലോകത്തിലെതന്നെ വാടക കൂടിയ നഗരങ്ങളിലൊന്നായ മുംബൈയിലെ കുറഞ്ഞ വരുമാനക്കാർക്കും മറ്റു നാടുകളിൽനിന്ന് തൊഴിൽതേടി എത്തിയവർക്കും ഇവിടം അഭയമായി.
15,000-ൽപ്പരം ഒറ്റമുറി ഫാക്റ്ററികൾ ഇവിടെ ഉള്ളതായി കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.

DHARAVI

Dharavi is one of the world's largest slums located in Mumbai. Dharavi has an area of just over 2.1 square kilometers (0.81 sq mi; and a population of about 1.2 million

Dharavi slum was founded in 1883 during the British colonial era and grew in part because of the expulsion of factories and residents from the peninsular city center by the colonial government, and from the migration of poor rural Indians into urban Mumbai. There are a lot of Tamil people live in Dharavi.

Dharavi has suffered from many epidemics and other disasters, including a widespread plague in 1896 which killed over half of the population of Mumbai.
ചരിത്രം
വളരെക്കാലം മുമ്പ്, ധാരാവി ഒരു ചേരിപ്രദേശമായിരുന്നില്ല. അന്ന് ഇതൊരു മുക്കുവ ഗ്രാമമായിരുന്നു. 1909-ൽ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച ഗസറ്റിയർ ഒഫ് ബോംബെ ആൻഡ് ഐലൻഡിൽ ധാരാവിയെപ്പറ്റി പരാമർശമുണ്ട്. ബോംബെയിലെ മത്സ്യബന്ധന വിഭാഗക്കാരുടെ വിശാലമായ ആറ് കേന്ദ്രങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്ന് (one of the six great kowliwadas of Bombay) എന്നാണ് അതിൽ പരാമർശിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. അക്കാലത്ത് ധാരാവി ഒരു ചതുപ്പുനിലമായിരുന്നു. കോളി മുക്കുവരായിരുന്നു ഇവിടത്തെ ആദ്യ താമസക്കാർ. അറബിക്കടലിലേക്കു തള്ളിനിന്ന മുനമ്പായിരുന്നു അവരുടെ അധിവാസകേന്ദ്രം. ധാരാവിക്കടുത്ത് സിയോനിൽ (Sion) പണിത ഒരു അണക്കെട്ടുമൂലം വേറിട്ടുകിടന്ന രണ്ട് വ്യത്യസ്ത ദ്വീപുകൾ ക്രമേണ തമ്മിൽ ചേർന്ന് നീണ്ട് വീതികുറഞ്ഞ ഒരു പ്രദേശമായി മാറി. കാലക്രമേണ നികന്ന ചതുപ്പുനിലങ്ങൾ പുറംനാടുകളിൽനിന്നു വന്ന കുടിയേറ്റക്കാർ താവളമാക്കി. ഈ കുടിയേറ്റക്കാരിൽ രണ്ട് വിഭാഗമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഗുജറാത്തിൽനിന്നും കൊങ്കൺപ്രദേശത്തുനിന്നും വന്നവരാണ് ആദ്യ കൂട്ടർ. ഇവരിൽ സൗരാഷ്ട്രയിൽനിന്നു വന്ന കളിമൺപാത്രനിർമ്മാണക്കാരും ഉൾ പ്പെടുന്നു. ധാരാവിയിൽ ഇന്നു കാണുന്ന കുംഭർവാഡകൾ ഇങ്ങനെ നിലവിൽ വന്നവയാണ്.
