Macchi C 200 Saetta, Italian Lightning Bolt

The Macchi C.200 Saetta (translates to lightning bolt or thunder bolt) was competitive with Allied fighters in a 1 vs 1 dogfight, at least early on. However it couldn't be built in enough numbers to matter, nor could it effectively intercept U.S. bombers.

Updates:
When I first translated Saetta it came back as Thunderbolt, but it turns out it's Lighting bolt. I'm honestly not sure of the difference. I'm sure I'll hear about it in the comments.

That scoop is the air intake for the carb. I'm annoyed with myself because I actually figured that out by shining a flashlight in there at the museum, in fact, that's why I have the picture of it close up. Then I somehow changed it in my mind to oil cooler scoop when I recorded the video. Not that it effects the overall point, which is that's it seems out of place on that otherwise beautiful cowling.

The oil cooler is actually a surface type cooler like an Italian Macchi raceplane, which is the reason for the copper nose.
