Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival, or Lunar New Year and is a very important Chinese festival celebrated at the turn of the lunar calendar. A lunar new year can fall between 21st January and 20th February, with it coming on 16th February 2018 on this year; the Year of the Dog.

The Chinese animal zodiac, or shengxiao - pronounced shnng-sshyaoww which means "born resembling" - is a repeating cycle of 12 years. Each year it represented by a different zodiac animal, and that year is said to be full with personality traits from that animal.Traditionally these zodiac animals were used to date the years too.

In order, the 12 animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig. Each year is associated with a zodiac animal. 2018 is the year of the Dog.
