On this day, May 15: A Castle Wall. The Full Moon. And the First Human Flight.

May 15, 1793 — a poor Spanish farm laborer named Diego Marín Aguilera leapt off the battlements of Coruña del Conde castle in a glider he built with his own hands.
Self-taught. Zero formal training. He built it from wood, cloth, iron, and real bird feathers — complete with flapping wings powered by pedals. Helped only by a blacksmith and his sister, he launched under a full moon, soared six meters high, and glided over 360 meters across the river before crashing bruised but alive.
Over a hundred years before the Wright brothers, this forgotten dreamer proved humans could fly.
Groundbreaking ideas can come from anywhere — even a rural village with nothing but courage and ingenuity.
