We're already 38 days into the year, and today I'm looking back on the whirlwind that was 2024. In 2023 I started to write a single novel about an alien invasion after watching "I Am Legend" and ruminating on the possibility of earth's custodians being taken out of the way by aliens instead of a cancer cure that turned to rabies. As I've stated in so many interviews, "I intended to write a single book." What limited foresight.

What sprang from the first few paragraphs of that initial novel were 1800 pages of terror, inspiration, worldbuilding, powerful storytelling with thematic depth, and a series that to this day I remain immeasurably proud of.

The "Dissonance" hexalogy is not just about an alien invasion. It's about man being the worst enemy of man. Indeed, that's why it's called "Dissonance," which is the very opposite of harmony. It's about two brothers. It's about family, survival, heart, parenting, and parenting through trauma. It's about fighting back against the powers that be, overcoming obstacles, and working together as we should. It was never a referendum on 2024 or the state of humanity, but it does have bearings on where we are and where we go from here.

All in all, Dissonance has taken so many iterations: new covers, paperbacks, hardcovers, classic box sets, expanded box sets, all-in-one paperback box set versions, Kindle, audiobooks (individual books AND a complete hexalogy version that is 51 hours!), countless book signing parties and craft fairs selling my books, accompanied by all kinds of marketing, and even a Labor Day weekend pilgrimage through the places where my characters walked, which was utterly surreal.

For the audiobooks, I didn't want to do them. But it was inevitable. I'm a voiceover artist, and who better to tell my own author story than me, the author/voiceover artist? I found it incredibly compelling, and they turned out SO well. I got to employ Latin, New York, Australian, Deep South, Russian, Caribbean, British, and many more accents all the way through, and I'm really grateful for the experience.

I continue to soldier on in a new series, but "Dissonance" is my first love. The series is POWERFUL. Volume I: Reality has been adapted for the screen and is being pitched to streaming networks. I have super high hopes for that. I will always be grateful for my first love.
