This is the wound that was uncovered upon trimming of the callus. The wound was at the deep part of the callus.

Diabetic wounds can occur when there is too much pressure on the skin. Where a patient carries weight on his foot, the skin may thicken and form a callus. But where a patient carries a lot of weight, but can’t feel the pressure, and can’t feel the callus, the skin at the deep part of the callus can break open and cause an ulcer, or wound. The danger here is that if the person does not feel that there is a problem, the site can become infected. Once a foot becomes infected, that can be how someone loses a toe, a foot or a leg.
