Optimization
An introduction to the idea of optimization, which is the business of using differential calculus to find the minimum and maximum values of a function on its domain. We look at three examples, one for which we are able to use the closed interval method, another which requires a slightly more subtle analysis of the sign of the derivative, and then a third in which we take advantage of implicit differentiation to simplify our calculations.
