Japan faced dire warnings about the COVID-19 pandemic and a few scares, but managed to keep cases under control without mandatory lockdowns. Some say Japan’s system of wearing masks, avoiding crowds and using rigorous contact tracing could be a model for other countries until there’s a vaccine.
