All new construction homes are required by building codes to have 4 wire stove outlets. Every 220 volt outlet must be 4 wire. Every time I come across an older three wire oven outlet, I convert that old 3 wire oven outlet to 4 wire to the more modern National Electrical Code standards for oven wiring. For kitchen wiring, since Jan. 1, 1996, the National Electrical Code forbids 220 volt outlets, which are 3-wire Oven electrical outlets in all new construction, so you have to use the newer 4-wire outlets and remove the ground strap inside your new oven when you hook it up to four wire electrical outlets. Oven outlet wiring is fairly simple, there's only 4 wires.
