Research Study for Men 45-80 with Enlarged Prostate

UVa Health System, Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging, Division of Vascular and Interventional Radiology seeks men ages 45 – 80 years old with an enlarged prostate, also known as Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH), who are experiencing increased frequency/urgency of urination, painful urination, excessive nighttime urination, weak urine stream, dribbling, incomplete emptying of the bladder and/or overflow incontinence for a research study. The purpose of the study is to research a non-surgical way of treating BPH. The investigational device is thought to reduce or eliminate blood flow to the prostate, thereby eliminating urinary symptoms. Participation involves up to 9 study visits over a period of 2 years. Study visits involve physical exams and review of your symptoms, imaging to determine the size of your prostate, undergoing the procedure to place the investigational device and an overnight stay in the hospital. Study-related questionnaires and follow-up phone calls are provided free of charge. Your insurance company will be billed for medication, tests and procedures related to your participation.
