2012 Dreamcatcher Gala: Carter Yellowbird - Lifetime Achievement

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT | Carter Yellowbird, Samson Cree Nation, Hobbema, Alberta.

"Think Big and Dream Big" is Carter's motto. He has shown that through all his periences
and challenges in life and through achieving his goals. A past champion of the Indian Rodeo Cowboys Association in Canada, he has competed for 20 years at the World Indian Finals.

As a child growing up in Samson Cree Nation in Hobbema, Carter always dreamed of competing in the Calgary Stampede. His dream came true in 1991-92 when he was the
first-ever Cree tie-down roper to compete in the Stampede.

Carter left home in his early thirties to work in Paris for Disneyland Paris as a primary cast member for Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. Upon his return, Carter brought Disney to First Nations across Canada to recruit other performers for the show. He's also worked on the ABC miniseries Dreamkeepers and Little House on the Prairie, perform ing a variety of stunts, including driving 1500 head of buffalo down a hill while on horseback. One of his proudest achievements is gaining his Masters of Business Administration. His thesis was focused on retention strategies for First Nation people working off-reserve. Carter Yellowbird has definitely proven that if do you think big, your dreams will come true.
