The Type 99 or ZTZ99 is a Chinese third generation main battle tank. The vehicle was a replacement for the aging Type 88 introduced in the late 1980. Type 99 MBT was China's first mass-produced third generation main battle tank.
The tank entered People's Liberation Army (PLA) service in 2001. The People's Liberation Army Ground Force is the sole operator of the Type 99.
This main battle tank is a further development of the Type 98 MBT. It is generally similar to the Type 98, but has a number of improvements. Type 99 was revealed in year 2000 and entered service with the Chinese Army in 2001. It shows a mixture of Russian and Western influence in its design and technology. As of 2017 improved version of this tank is produced in China. Currently it is the most advanced Chinese main battle tank. This tank has a crew of three, including commander, gunner and driver.
