Councillors employed by not-for-profit agencies should not ask for a handouts
Stonnington City Councillor Alexander Lew says councillors employed by not-for-profit agencies should not be “taping their hand and asking for a handout”.
“Councils should not be giving money to not-for-profit agencies that have councillors as board members or have councillors as paid employees.
“The relationship between councillor and council officer is one of power imbalance.
“If you’re a councillor and you’re in a governance or management position of a not-for-profit agency, your agency should not be going to your council, tapping hands and asking for handouts.
“This is not a Liberal, Labor, or Greens issue...this is simply about good governance.”
