PAINTING TUTORIAL || Painting a Still Life in Oil
A lot of you have been asking for a tutorial, and as I've have been swamped with commissions lately, I decided to take a little break to do a small still life study and show you a bit of my process. I know it's not a portrait like I usually paint, but everything is just a combination of shapes, values, and colors - once you've learned how to paint what you see and not what you THINK you see, that's when you'll be able to paint whatever you want, including faces. At some point I'll do a portrait tutorial - but that will probably be a longer video because painting faces usually takes me much longer than still life. Not to mention my current computer is VERY slow when it comes to processing video, so it takes ten times longer to edit than it does to actually paint a piece.
I would have done some voice narrating, but I don't have the audio recording equipment and I happen to hate the sound of my voice. Hopefully soon I'll be able to get some recording equipment and talk you through some of my videos, for now I hope this helps some of you!
Keep in mind, I'm still learning and figuring out the best techniques for me, so don't think that you need to use the same process that I do in this video. Everyone works in different ways - I encourage you to keep experimenting and trying new processes and techniques to figure out what works best for you!
