Roosevelt Island, New York City - A 5 Minute Video Tour

This is video I shot during several visits to Roosevelt in New York City. Roosevelt Island sits between the East Side of Manhattan and the borough of Queens.

Some of the highlights on this video: it starts with a ride across the East River on the Roosevelt Island tram, which parallels the 59th Street Bridge (also known as the Queensboro Bridge). There's also video of Franklin Roosevelt Four Freedoms Park, located at the southern tip of the island, and Lighthouse Park, which sits at the northern tip of the island.

You get some great views of the Upper East Side of Manhattan, the UN, and the Empire State Building. There's also the Hell Gate area of the East River, where there's some really rough water in a spot where the incoming tide from the Atlantic crashes into the river's southward flow.

Roosevelt Island is unbelievably serene and quiet, considering it's just a few hundred yards across the water from one of the most densely populated cities of the world. Central Park is fabulous, but often gets very crowded especially on weekends. When you visit Roosevelt Island, it seems you practically have the entire island to yourself.
