In an attempt to recreate the magic of blockbuster hits like KGF 2 and Salaar, the makers of the ambitious 2024 Kannada action-thriller Martin found themselves facing severe disappointment at the box office. Directed by A.P. Arjun, Martin starred Dhruva Sarja in the lead role and was made on a grand budget of ₹100 crore, with expectations of becoming a pan-Indian blockbuster. However, the film unfortunately became one of the biggest flops of the year, resulting in substantial financial losses for its producers.

Released across five languages—Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada—on October 11, 2024, Martin opened to a gross collection of ₹5.97 crore on its first day. Despite the initial curiosity, the film was unable to maintain momentum and concluded its run in India with a net collection of only ₹22 crore, including taxes. This was far below the break-even point, leaving the producers with a staggering loss of ₹78 crore.

The film received largely negative reviews from audiences and critics alike. Dhruva Sarja's performance faced criticism, and the VFX and CGI, which were crucial for an action thriller of this scale, were widely panned for not meeting expectations. Additionally, the production quality came under scrutiny, contributing to a general audience backlash and rejection of the film.

During its opening week, Martin managed to collect ₹16.04 crore in its original Kannada version, while the Hindi version earned ₹1.49 crore. The Tamil release grossed ₹21 lakh, Telugu brought in ₹1.98 crore, and Malayalam earned ₹13 lakh. Despite the wide release and high expectations, Martin failed to find favor with audiences, ultimately cementing its place as 2024’s biggest box-office disaster.
