We’ve been talking about the various cash cliffs for months now, but a recent article from Yahoo Money showcases a steep cliff for up to 15 million Americans on the day after Christmas.

With 9.4 million Americans collecting PUA benefits, the last day to receive funds will either be December 26th or 27th depending on the state you live in.

Additionally, roughly 6 million Americans that are collecting FPUC, those 13 additional weeks of benefits, are also set to expire at the end of the year.

Andrew Stettner, an unemployment insurance expert at the Century Foundation, explained: “You're really seeing a huge black-and-white change from very aggressive help to the unemployed, to almost nothing in a matter of months.”

He continued: “It's just a really untimely and very disastrous situation to let these benefits expire the day after Christmas.”

Meanwhile, I talked in my stimulus video earlier today about Sandra Black, who served on former President Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers.

In addition to comments about approving stimulus checks over $1,200, she also explained that additional unemployment benefits are vital and must be included in any new disaster relief bill.

Black explained: “We need to get money to individuals directly because, even if we expanded unemployment insurance, there are a lot of people who have fallen through the cracks who aren’t able to get the money, and now is a really hard time to be punitive and say, “Oh you need to go find a job.”

She continued: “We also need to get money to people. With the CARES Act, we expanded the unemployment insurance system, making it more generous and made more people eligible for unemployment benefits but the increased generosity has ended.”

Finally, I know from the comments that some of y’all are already taking advantage of this great career, but there is a huge shortage of truck drivers across America, especially women in trucking.

According to John Kearney, CEO of Advanced Training Systems, “the motor freight industry is suffering from an acute driver shortage. Trucking companies are eager to hire a larger percentage of women drivers, and in many cases are willing to pay for the training they need to get started.”

Fortunately, a nonprofit called the Women in Trucking Association (WIT) has announced a new Driver Ambassador Program, which aims: “To promote the career opportunities trucking offers women, celebrate their accomplishments, and remove obstacles female truck drivers face.”

This sounds like a great opportunity for women across America to pick up a new trade and grab one of these trucking jobs as we head into the new year.
