N.A.R.D. Solos 4 & 5 The "Strut" Street March and Two Four Hooker
Here are solos 4 & 5 from the classic snare drum book N.A.R.D. Drum Solos.
They are The Strut Street March by Geo. F. Sime and Two-Four Hooker by Fred Miller.
N.A.R.D. , which stands for National Association of Rudimental Drummers is a collection of rudimental snare drum solos by many authors. It is a great beginning or intermediate book that works very well for teaching rudimental styles, stickings and techniques.
I play the Strut Street March solo at 1/4 note = 120 BPM and then talk about two ways to approach playing the 7 stroke rolls which are written as squeezed rolls.
I perform Two Four Hooker at 1/4 note = 120 and then slower at 1/4 note =100
The drum I am using is a 1920's Ludwig nickel over brass 14 x 6.5" drum with gut snares. The sticks are of my own making. If you are interested in a pair contact me at rickdior@gmail.com
