The curriculum mandates that students from class 6 to class 10 learn three languages—two Indian languages and one foreign or regional language. This policy has ignited fierce opposition, especially in Tamil Nadu, where Chief Minister MK Stalin has called it an "attempt at linguistic imposition."

The CBSE’s Three-Language Formula: According to the new curriculum, all students will now have to study a third language from class 6 onwards. The new formula proposes that students choose two Indian languages, and one foreign or regional language.
Tamil Nadu’s Opposition: Tamil Nadu, which has a long-standing policy of promoting Tamil and English, argues that this system covertly pushes Hindi in non-Hindi speaking regions, thereby undermining regional languages.
Union Education Minister’s Response: Dharmendra Pradhan argues that the formula promotes linguistic equality and aims to create multilingual leaders, but many state governments and linguistic groups are not convinced.
