Spectacular Sauling Climb - 3953ft Ascent

Hiking/Climbing Sauling was an incredible experience, one that we didn't expect to be so difficult. The walk up to Neuschwanstein Castle was hard and that is just 1/8th of the vertical climb. The ascent is really 3 sections; a wide track suitable for jeeps/ebikes, a steep hiking trail then finally a tough climb with cable support. This is a Red mountain hiking route.

The reward is truly stunning views across the mountain peaks of Austria to the south and the lakes of Southern Germany to the North. It literally took our breath away when reaching the point where the South could be seen.

Our day started by catching 2 buses to get to the start of the walk. The signposted sign states 5 hours to do the hike, its not clear if thats to the summit or the return trip. We walk fast and it took us 5hrs 45mins to get to the Summit and down to the Hut further up the valley where we caught the last bus at 5:30pm back (Lucky!)
