Description: I went up to the highlands to collect my wildlife camera and spent an afternoon in the woods looking for fungi to photograph and forage - I was especially keen to find chanterelles as they're really beautiful and also very tasty! Luckily, I found some so I took some photos and then picked them... Then I made a small fire and cooked them up with some onions, bacon and butter - very tasty 😊
I found a few other interesting fungi to photograph along the way as well, and, as an awesome unexpected bonus, I also encountered a female roe deer and fawn!

This video is half nature photography vlog and half bushcraft demonstration - let me know in the comments if you’d like to see more bushcraft videos on the channel with descriptions of how I set everything up..? The next videos will be more 'targetted' wildlife photography and wildlife camera footage.

I my fire using birchbark, dry heather twigs and one small pine branch that I'd found earlier, and lit it using my fire steel - I could have used a lighter but this way is more fun. I made the fire on a gravel bank by a forestry track because that meant I was definitely away from peaty ground, which can keep burning underground long after the surface fire is out - not a good situation and something to be very careful of here in Scotland! Also, making the fire on the track had a lower impact on the local environment in general.

IMPORTANT: There are some wild fungi in the UK that are DEADLY, so you must NEVER eat any fungi unless you are 100% confident you have identified it as safe to eat! I am really careful when out foraging and actually only ever pick a handful of species as they are the ones I know I can identify and don't have any nasty look-alikes!
