these two are your reminder that if you see something, say something.

elvis and stevie were trapped in a chain link enclosure covered in their own filth, with no adequate shelter for three long years. three long years of silence. three long years of no socialization. three long years void of any love or attention. three long years of the same 6x6 pen.

concerned neighbours watched onward and tried to persuade the “owners” to provide more for the boys but it fell on deaf ears. our laws to protect these beings may as well not exist. so long as they’re provided the bare minimum, that’s all that is required.

and finally, one day those concerned neighbours, the ones who complained for years, were able to persuade the owners to give the dogs up.

it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with these two (love at first sight, truly). with a little bit of time, some handfuls of treats, and lots of kind words, they soon began to trust me. they would allow me to sit and pet them for hours, clamoring over who could get closer. they truly didn’t leave my side and did all of my barn chores with me, showing so much kindness to all of the other animals here on the farm. and they always, always greeted me with a smile on their face and tails that could clean the windshields at a car wash.

i watched them slowly transform day by day. anyone who has fostered knows the sheer joy of watching a dog play with a toy for the first time - we celebrated that one big.

with the help of this community we were able to raise the money required to get them the veterinary care that they required. we are still working through some health challenges with the boys and are waiting for stevie to be seen by an ophthalmologist as if we can save any of whatever vision he has left, we will.

we need to remember, that these dogs belong to all of us. it is our responsibility to continue to advocate for these beings and to be a voice for the voiceless. if you see something, say something. over and over and over. i promise you, that we can all make a difference. we certainly did in the lives of these two.
