Throwing, Trimming, and Glazing a Wheel Thrown Rolled Rim Colander for Kitchen Prep

In this video, I use roughly 4 1/2 lbs of Standard Stoneware 153 to throw a colander. Near the end of the throwing process, I thinned the rim, then rolled it for a sturdy, durable edge. I allowed the form to get leatherhard, then trimmed a foot. I used my Giffin Grip to hold the upside-down form for trimming. http://www.giffingrip.com/
After trimming the foot, I marked three even notched on the bottom, and cut them with an exacto knife. Lastly, I cut the holes with my drill, and cleaned them smoothly with a dry then wet brush. Then, I flipped the form upside down to dry. Once dry, I bisque fired.

After bisque firing, I waxed the feet sections, then quickly rinsed prior to dipping. Remember to turn the colander upside down when dipping, to prevent too much pooling in the holes. Clean any excess glaze from the holes using a needle tool or drill bit if necessary.

At the end, I show the finished glaze fired forms. The glaze I used in the video is Laguna Moroccan Sand Antique Jade, cone 5- fired at cone 5 with a 25 minute hold.
