Build Any Dashboard With Just SQL and React (No Extra Tools)

I build every dashboard and client report with exactly two tools: SQL to query the data and React to render it. No semantic layer, no drag-and-drop BI platform, no three layers of abstraction between me and the data warehouse. If you can write a query, you can pull any data you want — join it, filter it, format it — and React gives you the flexibility to render it exactly how you need.

The real force multiplier here is pairing this stack with an LLM like Claude. Because Claude understands both SQL and React fluently, what used to take weeks to build can now be delivered the same day a client requests it. Custom filters, charts, tabs, even projection tools — all of it is just SQL feeding into React components, and the code lives in a GitHub repo anyone on the team can read and edit.

The server layer exists only to securely store credentials and route queries to the warehouse — BigQuery, Snowflake, whatever you use. That part is deliberately dumb. The meaningful parts of the stack are React and SQL. Keep it simple, and you can build practically anything.
