Endless discussions among my dear European friends — whether it is legal or illegal to confiscate Russia’s frozen assets — are still ongoing. But enough is enough.

Last year, together with distinguished American and British colleagues, we co-authored an article in the Financial Times providing a clear legal rationale for such confiscation.

According to the Charter of the United Nations, this is defined as countermeasures. Russia has violated international law, committed an act of aggression against Ukraine, and must be held accountable.
