Barangay Cristo Rey in Iriga City, like many other Iriga barrios, developed from sitios of larger original barrios, and gained its separate status after World War II.

Here's a more detailed look at the history of Iriga City and its barrios:

Iriga's Origins:

Iriga, meaning "there is land" in the local dialect, grew from a pre-Spanish settlement, established as a barrio in 1578, a town of Camarines Sur in 1684, and officially became a city on September 3, 1968.

Barrio Development:

After the Second World War, several sitios (small settlements) within larger barrios like San Agustin, San Isidro, and San Nicolas, became distinct and separate barrios.

Barangay Cristo Rey:

Cristo Rey, along with other barrios like San Ramon, San Rafael, Sta. Isabel, and others, were formed from sitios of these original barrios.

Iriga's Growth:

Iriga has developed into a major center of trade, commerce, and education in the Rinconada area and the Bicol Region, strategically located between Naga and Legazpi.

Economic Base:

The city's economy is primarily based on agriculture, with farming as the main source of livelihood.
