Gianfranco Rosi on Notturno, Immersive Filmmaking, and Finding the Right Moment

Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Gianfranco Rosi joins NYFF Director of Programming Dennis Lim to discuss Notturno, Rosi’s latest immersive work of nonfiction. Shot over the course of three years along the borders of Iraq, Kurdistan, Syria, and Lebanon, Notturno is a nighttime ramble through a region rocked and shattered by catastrophe and violence.
