Torrential rains and Flash floods in parts of Northeast valley districts
Imphal: Continuous rainfall over the past three days has led to widespread flooding in the valley regions and landslides in the hills, disrupting daily life across Manipur.
Several areas in Imphal valley remain inundated, with major roads submerged, creating challenges for commuters and office-goers.
Massive landslides were reported at Phaibung in Senapati district along the Ukhrul-Tadubi road, while other sections of the Ukhrul-Jessami road have been cut off, raising concerns for travellers.
The relentless downpour has caused rivers and streams in the hill districts to swell significantly, prompting authorities to issue safety advisories.
In Ukhrul district, the heavy rains led to the collapse of a retaining wall in Sihai Khunou, severely injuring a 46-year-old woman. According to villagers, the wall fell onto a neighbouring house at around 6pm on Thursday, destroying the kitchen. The injured woman, identified as Atamla Shaiza, was inside at the time and has been hospitalised at Ukhrul District Hospital with multiple injuries.
The Imphal and Serou rivers have reached concerning levels due to continuous rainfall, raising flood risks in the valley.
