A basic airway is simple to insert and can help keep the tongue off the back of the throat to keep an open airway. If your patient has a gag reflex, a nasopharyngeal airway would be the best choice. If your patient is unresponsive with no gag reflex, an OPA, oropharyngeal airway, would be the best choice.
