Rice husk-fueled flat-bed rice dryers in South Sumatra, Indonesia

The production of flat-bed dryers in Sumatra demonstrates how the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI; http://irri.org) can help add value to national programs by facilitating technology and knowledge transfer across countries.

These dryers are the result of bringing together.and amazing number of people from different sectors and institutions, Indonesian rice scientists, scientists from Vietnam contributing some technology components, development projects and extension offices, and students doing their research on the topic.

These flatbed dryers demonstrate how an adopted technology can be developed locally and help farmers to maintain quality and reduce post-harvest losses and thus generate higher incomes from their rice farms and provide a better life for their families.
