Episode 6: War in the South

South of the great river Anduin lie the lands of Harondor—Southern Gondor, as the Elves once named it. Once, these lands were ours, held firm beneath the banner of the White Tree. But centuries have passed since those days of dominion. In the time of Steward Túrin II, the Haradrim came in force, pressing ever northward, their crimson banners staining the horizon. We met them in battle, and on the banks of the Poros, beneath the open sky, the warriors of Gondor and Rohan stood as one. The enemy was broken that day, driven back by sword and spear. Yet though we claimed victory, the lands of Harondor were lost to us—for good.

And now, after long years, the enemy stirs once more.

Harondor has become, yet again, a staging ground for war. The Serpent Lord of Faen’obel gathers his hosts, and from the southern wastes they march, eager to spill the blood of Gondor’s sons. We have no choice but to reclaim what was lost. To rebuild the fortresses of old. To set a mighty defense against the tide that threatens to drown us.

But this is not the only shadow that darkens our borders. Our spies bring grim tidings: from the farthest reaches of the South, beyond the lands of Harad, the Variags of Khand are on the move. A great horde thunders ever northward, their horses kicking up the dust of a thousand miles. They do not come as wanderers nor mere raiders. They come as conquerors.

The storm gathers, and we must stand. For if the Great Khan and the Serpent Lord march north seeking conquest, then let them find only ruin. We shall carve our vengeance into the dust of Harondor, stain its parched earth with the blood of those who would see the white tree burn. Let them come—so that we may break them upon our swords and cast their banners into the wind.
