Maintaining and servicing your starter can help prolong its longevity and make the starter last longer. Usually, build ups in the starter can cause all sorts of problems and eventually shorting the life of the starter. I disassembled this starter to clean out the build up using carburetor cleaner, wire brush, and paper towel.

This also the best way to fix and repair a car starter if you find there are components that needs to be replaced. In the mean time, you can also rebuild the starter to save money instead of troubleshooting and waiting for the starter to fail which can cost 5-6 times more.
