Graders on my Street

I spent half an hour outside, watching (and filming) the Saskatoon grader crew trying to smooth out our street. Two graders and a foot of solid ice and ruts. I am amazed at the driver's capabilities, slipping and sliding and steering both ends at once, and also juggling the height, angle, inclination and snow catcher blades all at the same time. Coordination plus. :-)

Hard on equipment too, one of the grader's had a hydraulic rip off, so he tied chains in place to hold up the blade and went back to the garage where they will weld it back together again. He will be back on the job within an hour.

The breakage occurs at 4:55 in the video. You can hear the snap.

I also really like the part at 2:00, when one grader starts sliding sideways towards the other. The driver calmly steers into the skid, and the also steers the rear end away from the other grader as well. :-)
