Bayabas Pump Irrigation Project | Obullan, Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet

NIA technical personnel inspected the completed Bayabas Pump Irrigation Project (PIP) in Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet.

The project installed a submersible pump at the Bodikewkew Spring, Kapjaran, Pico. The pump has Total Dynamic Head (TDH) of 150 meters, and irrigation water was able to reach Sitio Obullan situated above Km. 4 (close to Piripin Bato). The project has a service area of five hectares with 15 farmer-beneficiaries.

The irrigated area is currently being cultivated for cabbage while tie wires are already set up as trellis for newly planted sayote.

According to Mr. Arthur Shontogan, president of the Peril Obudan Capjaran Farmers Association Inc., farmers in their area can now enjoy farming with irrigation water reaching their existing irrigation tanks which became unoperational due to lack of water in the past. He, however, wanted to preserve the existing forested area of pine trees near the irrigated area so that they planted fruit trees to augment the trees.
