Sixty years after the founding of Shiv Sena by Bal Thackeray on June 19, 1966, the party's landmark anniversary is being overshadowed by fresh political uncertainty and speculation of another split.

Six of Uddhav Thackeray's nine Lok Sabha MPs have come under scrutiny after skipping a crucial parliamentary party meeting, fuelling rumours that they could join the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. As rival factions prepare separate foundation day celebrations, Mumbai Police has issued an alert over possible clashes, protests and counter-protests across the city.
