Stump Grinder
Some folks have asked about the grinder. It is made from an old leaf blower. 2" square tubing with a 1/4 wall makeup the frame. 3/16 wall would probably have been thick enough. The driven pulley is 6" and the drive pulley is 4". Cutter wheel shaft is 1". Two 12" x 1/2" thick steel disc make up the cutter wheel. Being this heavy it is not only sturdy but also acts as a flywheel. 12 style C carbide tipped with 3/8" shank lathe tools, not shown here, are good to use and cheap. They set in slots cut at a 7" angle. To change a tool loosen the bolts needed. As of now we have not changed any even with hitting some rocks. A weight is attached to the handle to offset the weight forward of the wheels. Plan on putting some jack screws at the pillow blocks to keep them from sliding back under belt tension. Used old car floor mats to cover the openings to keep wood chips from covering us up. Want to later put larger tires on it to make it easier to get around over rough ground. We have cut at least 35 to 40 stumps without any trouble.
